Focus: Vida Court Achieves Huntington’s Disease Association Accreditation

Vida Court, a specialist care home in Harrogate, is proud to announce it has achieved accreditation from the Huntington’s Disease Association (HDA), recognising its commitment to delivering outstanding care for people living with Huntington’s disease (HD). The HDA accreditation is awarded to services that demonstrate excellence in supporting people with HD, a complex condition with no UK-specific NICE guidelines and limited international frameworks for care. Vida Court’s journey to accreditation reflects its dedication to continuous improvement and innovation in specialist care.

A journey of development and collaboration
When Vida Court began the accreditation process, the initial visit identified areas of the service that required further development. Rather than seeing this as a challenge, the team embraced it as an opportunity to refine and enhance their care provision, using the HDA’s standards as a framework for improvement. Between the first assessment and the revisit, the team worked closely with HDA representatives, including Anne from the specialist accreditation team, to review the initial report in detail. This collaborative approach enabled Vida Court to focus on key areas for development and put in place meaningful changes.

“I am very proud and humbled by the dedication, compassion and commitment shown by the Lindsay house team.  They have supported the ladies and gentlemen living with HD experience high quality care in an environment that promotes independence, freedom of choice and improved quality of life.” Bernadette Mossman, Healthcare Director, Vida Healthcare.

Raising the standard of care
Since completing the accreditation process, the knowledge and skills of Vida Court’s staff team have grown significantly. With the support of the HDA’s standards and guidance, the home has been able to shape its service around the unique and complex needs of residents living with HD.

As a result, Vida Court has seen measurable improvements in outcomes for its residents, reinforcing its position as a leader in specialist dementia and neurological care.

Encouraging others to take the step
Vida Court also encourages other care homes to consider the benefits of accreditation.

“The process isn’t simply about achieving accredited status,” Amanda Whitehouse, Home Manager, Vida Court. “It’s about the day to day improvements in care and service delivery that happen along the way. The HDA team provide invaluable support, highlighting areas for development and guiding homes through the steps to achieve real, lasting change.”
