Janet cared for her husband, Patrick, when he was first diagnosed with dementia and for the following ten years. Initially, Patrick showed forgetfulness, placing items in random places, and asking the same questions but his symptoms quickly escalated leading to a pivotal moment where he climbed out of the window and went missing. Thankfully Patrick was found by the police at 3.00am and was brought home safely. It was at this moment that Janet realised that she could no longer support Patrick’s needs at home and required professional support.
The process of finding a suitable care home for Patrick resulted in immense stress for Janet and her daughters. They struggled with the uncertainties of his placements in various facilities and were unsure about whether the chosen home could support Patrick’s needs.
Fast forward to September 2023, when Patrick was admitted to Vida Hall in Starbeck. Janet explains she felt like a weight was lifted off her and her family’s shoulders. Initially, hesitant about the distance, as they lived far away, Janet and her daughters were reassured after witnessing the quality of care Patrick was receiving at Vida Hall. They have found the staff at Vida were highly trained and were particularly pleased with Vida’s care approach, which significantly enhanced Patrick’s well-being.
